Baccalaureate English National Exam Arts July 2021: Interactive Practice
English National Exam — Arts July 2021
Interactive practice: Reading (15 pts) · Language (15 pts) · Writing (10 pts)
[1] The year 2020 was a school year like no other. Because of COVID-19 pandemic, millions of students and thousands of classes moved to online learning. This shift was not easy as teachers and students faced technical and logistical difficulties. Despite these challenges, students and teachers have found opportunities for innovation, social connection and growth.
[2] Minnesota Virtual Academy in USA is entirely online since 1999, The academy is a public school that serves about 2,800 students. Shelley Gates, assistant principal, said that the academy is unique because many students can avoid bullying, misbehavior, lack of concentration and any other barriers that can prevent learning. “We have noticed that this online experience is successful. When students eliminate outside distractions from their learning environment, they focus more and do well,” she added.
[3] Ted is now a student at the academy. “In my previous school, I found it hard to stay engaged and I didn’t feel supported by my teachers. My family and I knew we had to do something about it. My sister had already joined Minnesota Virtual Academy, and she was doing well academically and mentally throughout the pandemic. So, I decided to move to the same school. It’s been great so far. I feel secure, healthy and I’m learning better.” he said.
[4] Indiana Digital Learning School (IDLS) is another online public school, serving primary and secondary school students. This year, an additional 2,000 students enrolled because of COVID-19. “Our students have a full-time schedule from Monday to Friday and they attend a minimum of five classes a day,” said Lewis, the school principal. The school also provides students with all the supplies they need to ensure they learn at no cost. All students get a laptop, a printer, books and a science kit. Diana, a university teacher, has just moved her daughter Ann to the school. Ann was uncomfortable wearing a mask all day, sometimes even developing a rash on her face. Things have changed a lot for her. “I like it more because I learn better,” said Ann.
[5] Steven Morris, a math teacher at IDLS, has started his own YouTube channel to offer online lessons to his students. In an interview with Fox TV, Morris said he created the channel shortly after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. “I remember how lost I was when I first started online learning. Thanks to our teacher’s channel, things are different now. My friends and I enjoy online learning a lot. It’s more autonomous, flexible and fun,” said Tom, one of Steven’s students.

Moreover, we organize outings and talk about our plans for the weekend. Finally, I share good news and encourage my friends when they feel sad.
Task 2: Write an article about fast food. (6 pts)
Why Do People Prefer Fast Food?
Fast food is becoming more and more popular all over the world. There are several reasons for this.
First, it is quick: people with busy lives do not have time to cook. Second, it is cheap and available everywhere. Moreover, many young people like its taste and enjoy eating it with their friends.
In my opinion, fast food is not a good habit because it contains a lot of fat and sugar and can cause obesity. We should eat it only from time to time and prefer healthy home-made meals.
