Megan McCormick is an adult living with an intellectual disability called Down syndrome (also known as Trisomy 21). This is her inspiring story on graduating from college and pursuing her dreams.

[1] Megan is 31 years old and the youngest of six siblings. When her parents told her that she had Down syndrome, she didn’t know exactly what it was. But she knew that she would have to work much harder to achieve her goals in life. Her parents and siblings never treated her like she had a disability. “I am grateful for the support I received not just from my family, but from teachers, tutors, and coaches. They all helped me accomplish my dreams,” she said.

[2] As a child, Megan attended public schools in Lexington, Kentucky, where she was included in regular classes and graduated with her peers. After her high school education, she enrolled at Bluegrass Community and Technical College, where she eventually chose to specialize in education. During her training, she enjoyed working with children, specifically those at the elementary school. Thanks to support from her teachers, tutors, and classmates, she graduated in 2013 with a degree in education. That was a huge accomplishment!

[3] Megan is now working as a part-time teacher in an elementary school. “Employment is important to me; it gives me the opportunity to help children in the same way my teachers helped me. I am lucky to work in an elementary school in which the principal is determined to make sure that I am successful. It’s the same elementary school I attended when I started school in Lexington,” she explained.

[4] Megan has other dreams too. She’s determined to get her driver’s license so she can drive to work. She is training hard for the Special Olympics swimming competition. She also serves as an advocate for health and inclusion programs for people with intellectual disabilities. “Just like you, I want to be an active member of my community and be allowed to contribute and give back,” she said.

[5] Nancy, Megan’s sister, is very proud of her. “Megan has always been a source of inspiration to me. Watching her journey has taught me how to face challenges. I am so proud to see her working in an elementary school classroom, serving as a role model for other children and families,” said Nancy.

I think that a good teacher should have several qualities. First, he or she should be patient and kind with students. Second, a good teacher should explain the lessons clearly and use different methods. In addition, he or she should be fair and respect everybody. Finally, a good teacher should motivate students to love learning.

Task 2: Write an article about fast food. (6 pts)

Why Is Fast Food So Popular?

Nowadays, many people eat fast food every day. There are several reasons for this. First, it is quick, so people with busy schedules do not have to cook. Second, it is cheap and available everywhere. Moreover, young people like the taste and the friendly atmosphere of fast food restaurants.

In my opinion, this eating habit is dangerous. Fast food contains too much fat, sugar and salt, and it can cause obesity and heart problems. I think we should eat it only occasionally and choose healthy meals most of the time.
