Example of an Argumentative Essay

The Prompt: Parents are the best teachers for their kids. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

These days, people talk a lot about who teaches kids the best – is it their parents or their teachers at school? This is a big deal because learning the right things in the right way is very important for kids. Yet, some people think that teachers at school are better. The reason for this is that they learn how to teach, while others think parents know their kids best and can teach them well.

Some people believe that parents are the best teachers for their kids. First of all, parents know their kids well and love them a lot, so they can make learning fun and easy. Secondly, parents teach us big lessons like being nice, sharing toys, and telling the truth. These lessons help us grow up to be good people. Also, parents are always there to help right away if kids are having trouble with something. This helps kids learn from their mistakes.

On the other hand, some people think that school teachers are better at teaching kids. First, teachers learn special ways to help a whole class learn together, which is cool. Next, they know a lot about different subjects like math, science, and reading. This can help kids learn a lot of new things. Furthermore, school is a place where kids can make friends and learn how to work and play together. This is something that can’t happen in the same way at home.

In my opinion, both parents and school teachers are important for helping kids learn and grow. Parents teach us important life lessons and always help us when we need it. But, school teachers also teach us many interesting things and help us make friends. So, it’s good when parents and teachers work together to help kids learn the best they can!
