Biodome Reading Baccalaureate English National Exam Sciences 2025
[1] Biodome is a Moroccan company that builds plants for the production of cooking gas by recycling waste in farms. The founder, Fatima Zahra Beraich, solves the problem of organic waste in rural areas through recycling. She contributes to the production of energy by turning waste into green energy for farmers.
[2] Founded in 2017, Biodome is the result of Fatima Zahra’s love for chemistry and her business skills in solving waste and energy problems. At university, Fatima Zahra studied how waste breaks down naturally and changes into gas.
[3] “I’ve always been interested in waste management,” she says. Before thinking globally, Fatima wanted her waste treatment business to respond to the needs of the local people. In the beginning, she faced many challenges, such as lack of money and technical assistance. With financial support from European Union programs like The Next Society, Fatima Zahra has managed to make her waste treatment technology affordable and more sustainable. “The treated waste has two uses. First, it becomes an agricultural fertilizer, and, second, it produces cooking gas for people,” she explains.
[4] Biodome is proud to rely 100% on local engineers and workers. With their expertise, they build underground domes to produce gas on farms. They also have bags which turn waste into gas on the ground. The system can generate almost 4 hours of cooking gas per day and make fertilizers that farmers can use in their farms or sell. This helps them both to save money and earn more. The system can process 0 kg to 2 tons of waste each week.
[5] Convincing farmers to try this new technology was not easy. One of the first users of this technology, Zakaria Rachid, saw big results. The money he used to spend on buying fertilizers dropped by 50%, and his farm productivity went up. “I was amazed the first time I turned on my gas stove thanks to the energy produced from waste!” he says. Now, he encourages other farmers to use this system.
[6] Besides farmers, Biodome works with schools and businesses. The company is also working overseas in countries such as Ivory Coast. “We want to make this technology affordable and easy to use,” Fatima Zahra says. She hopes to see Biodome spread across Africa, helping the environment and the people.
